AGEMERA Field Trip in Croatia and Bosnia & Herzegovina
Our field work continues, with partners going on a field trip to southeastern Europe to look into karst bauxite deposits
Last year we were kicking off our field work with a trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina. This year, we went back to where we started, thanks to our colleagues from Lithica SCCL and the University of Zagreb.
Giulio Casini and Eduard Saura of Lithica, in collaboration with Ivica Pavicic from Zagreb University, carried out an 8-day fieldwork campaign across the Dinarides fold-thrust belt, between 17 and 26 October 2023. The focus of this fieldwork? To understand the structural style of the fold-thrust belt along a selected regional transect, a critical step towards constructing a balanced and restored regional cross-section through the Dinarides. This will help us get closer to our goal of improving our understanding of the geological settings that controlled the deposition of the karst bauxites explored in the area.
In the picture, you can see a bauxite mine in the Posusje area (Studena Vrila locality), Bosnia & Herzegovina, with synorogenic Promina beds overlying the karst bauxites and the top Cretaceous unconformity.
