AGEMERA organises Open Innovation Seminar in Tallinn (EE)
The hybrid event provided a platform to introduce the AGEMERA technologies and how they could shape the role of mineral exploration
Responsible mining - mere buzzword(s) or something we could aspire to and start working towards? We certainly vote for the latter, as we already proved in the Open Innovation Seminar we organised both offline (at the Tallinn University of Technology) and online, on 6 May 2025. The event was linked to the General Assembly meeting we also held those days.
The seminar was moderated by Kati Kongi, R&D expert at the Estonian Business and Innovation Agency, and it was the right opportunity for the SMEs we have in our consortium to introduce their non-invasive technologies, explain how they work and what their benefits are, share the results of testing them on the ground during our project, and highlight how they fit into the bigger picture: achieving the goals of the European Green Deal. These technologies were introduced by several of our colleagues: the electromagnetic and seismic survey technologies by Ari Saartenoja (Radai), muography-based subsurface imaging by Marko Holma (Muon Solutions), the WebUi platform & data integration work by Barbara Stimac Tumara (OPT/NET), the passive-seismic methods and geoscientific modelling by Martin Schimmel (CSIC) and Giulio Casini (Lithica). Plus, we were honoured to have Gerardo Herrera of the European Commission's DG GROW provide a speech detailing the Strategic Projects under the Critical Raw Materials Act and explaining how precisely these innovative technologies can help us unlock the EU's critical raw material potential.
The second part of the seminar was dedicated to a panel discussion, again moderated by Kati Kongi, that featured Hannes Plinte (co-founder and chairman of GScan), Doris Põld (CEO of ITL Estonia), Ari Saartenoja and Jari Joutsenvaara (our project coordinator). The discussion focused on the opportunities and challenges that the minerals sector is having nowadays, and the factors that influence sustainability in resource management, from local communities' perceptions and behaviours, to geopolitical risks and policy changes, and the power of building bridges between all these players.
The seminar was recorded. You can watch the full video here.
