AGEMERA takes part in AFRIROCK 2025
Our Polish partners at KGHM traveled to South Africa and introduced AGEMERA to an international crowd of experts in rock mechanics and mining engineering
It seems like our event in Lusaka was not the only appearance AGEMERA made in Africa this year! Representatives of KGHM CUPRUM Ltd. Research & Development Centre and KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. actively participated in the AFRIROCK 2025 conference, presenting the outcomes of the AGEMERA project to an international audience of experts in rock mechanics and mining engineering. The event was held in Sun City, South Africa, and gathered several hundred leading specialists in mining and rock mechanics from across the globe.
Krzysztof Fuławka delivered a presentation titled Application of large-scale Finite Element Method simulations to determine geomechanical hazard during room-and-pillar mining under a tectonic fault, prepared in collaboration with Lech Stolecki (KGHM CUPRUM) and Roman Kołodziej (KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., Lubin Mine).
Lech Stolecki presented the results of work on advanced seismic monitoring in a talk titled Application of MEMS accelerometers for continuous near-field monitoring of mining-induced seismicity, developed together with Krzysztof Fuławka and Piotr Mertuszka (KGHM CUPRUM).
Roman Kołodziej presented Determining the applicability of muon tomography for monitoring hazards in deep underground mines – a case study from a Polish copper mine, prepared as part of a joint effort between KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., KGHM CUPRUM, and Muon Solutions.
The presentations attracted considerable attention from conference participants, confirming the high impact and practical relevance of the AGEMERA project. The positive feedback and strong interest in the project’s achievements clearly demonstrated that AGEMERA's conclusion will not mark the end, but rather the continuation of international cooperation and technological development aimed at solving complex geomechanical challenges.
In addition, two scientific articles and one poster were prepared and will be included in the official conference proceedings.Congratulations and a big "Thank you" to our colleagues for discussing our results at this prestigious event!
